
GILMER COUNTY SCHOOL RECOVERY & GUIDANCE FALL 2021
FACE COVERINGS/TEMPERATURE CHECK GUIDELINES FOR BUILDINGS/CLASSROOM
There is no mandated requirement for staff and students to wear a face covering. This will be a parental/individual choice unless the WV DHHR Map indicates Gilmer County is Red or the local health department determines an “outbreak” in the school. Upon the red designation, all staff and students will be required to wear a face covering during this time.
All visitors and college observers will be required to wear a face covering in school facilities during operational hours when the WV DHHR Map indicates Gilmer County is in the Gold, Orange, or Red status.
Temperature checks will continue for students and visitors upon entering a building.
Gilmer County Schools will supply masks to any student, staff, faculty, or visitor who wishes to wear a face cover regardless of WV DHHR Map status.
SCHOOL ASSEMBLIES/FIELD TRIPS
School assemblies will be allowable if the WV DHHR MAP indicates Gilmer County is in Green, Yellow, or Gold status.
Field trips will be allowable if destination is Green/Yellow/Gold on WV DHHR Map.
SPORTING EVENTS
Sporting events will follow the guidance of WVSSAC.
BUSES
There is no mandated face covering requirement for students and drivers unless the WV DHHR Map indicates an Orange or Red status for Gilmer County.
Students will be seated with family or bus stops. Windows will be cracked weather permitted. Buses will be sanitized and cleaned regularly.
CAFETERIA
Cafeteria capacity has returned to 100% with spacing recommended. Students and staff will have access to salad bars.
Gilmer County Schools will follow the West Virginia Department of Education School Recovery & Guidance Document for FALL 2021.

We are inviting students and families of Gilmer County Elementary students to an open house, taking place here at the school, on Tuesday, August 17th, from 4 to 6PM. Come and meet school staff, community partners, learn about the exciting new app for Gilmer County Schools, get information about our PTO and after-school program, and meet your child's teacher for the upcoming school year. We have lots of book-bags to give away while supplies last. We are excited to start this school year with you!


PTO will meet on August 9 at 4:30. Please join us in the cafeteria to help prepare for our year!

FRN Resource Drive Thru will occur on August 5 from 4-7 at Gilmer County Elementary. Parents are asked to use the parent loop to pick-up free supplies for their child/children. All backpacks have been been pre-packed and will be provided on a first come, first serve basis.

The last day of Summer School 2021 is July 30!

Reminder to parents and guardians of 5th grade students: Signed permission is required for your child to participate in the 5th grade virtual ceremony. If you have not received a copy of the permission form, or if you need another one, please contact the school. Also, if you have not sent pictures of your child for the ceremony and would like to, please send them to Mrs. Canfield at mcanfield@k12.wv.us, or send them to school with your child.
