The Literacy Fair took place on October 6, 2023. Gilmer County Literacy Fair Winners were recognized for their accomplishment at the Regular meeting of the Gilmer County Board of Education on Monday night, October 23, 2023. The winners were presented with a certificate of recognition by Dr. Minney and congratulated by all board members. Way to go students!

evidenced by the marked improvement in the West Virginia Accountability ratings. Moreover, our school district has successfully met all the requirements outlined in the efficiency indicators, indicating a significant leap forward in our educational endeavors.
I am proud to report that Gilmer County was not designated for support for any indicator, as the West Virginia Department of Education reported in the West Virginia Department of Education Approval Status and Accreditation Memorandum sent by State Superintendent of Schools Michele L. Blatt. I do want to highlight the significant growth from 2022 to 2023. We are one of 20 counties with no support
indicators and have turned to green on the WVDE Balanced Score Card Indicator Map.
This noteworthy accomplishment directly results from your perseverance, passion, and diligence in providing an exceptional educational experience for our students. Your hard work and dedication has played a pivotal role in realizing our shared vision of excellence.

The Gilmer County Varsity Golf team was recognized at the October 9th Board of Education Meeting. Coach Wolfe and the players had just returned from the State Tournament at Olgebay in Wheeling. Congratulations on such a successful season! #gotitans
Gilmer County Schools celebrated National Custodian Day today! Dr. Minney and the Central Office Staff invited our custodians to the office for a little appreciation ceremony and banana splits! We appreciate the hard work they do each day to keep our facilities in great shape as well as working diligently to make sure we have schools and workplaces that are clean and sanitary. Custodians are vital to keeping the schools and environment safe and healthy!
Dr. Tony Minney, the Superintendent of GCS, paid a special visit to Ms. Brittany Koutsunis' 8th Grade General Music class last Friday. He delivered an engaging lesson on the rich history of folk music in Appalachia. The students enjoyed the tales of West Virginia's musical heritage and were treated to a hands-on demonstration of one of folk music's most iconic instruments: the fiddle.
During his visit, Dr. Minney not only shared his knowledge but also showcased his musical talents by playing several fiddle tunes and singing a selection of traditional folk songs that beautifully evoked the spirit of Appalachia. This immersive experience allowed our students to connect with our cherished local traditions.
Following these engaging demonstrations, the students were given the opportunity to try their hand at playing the fiddle, creating their own musical expressions and further deepening their appreciation for the art of folk music.

The GCHS Homecoming game will be live at 7:00 PM! Please come out and support our Titan student-athletes as they take on the Tucker County High School Mountain Lions. At halftime, there will be a special presentation of the GCHS homecoming court, and we will crown the Homecoming Queen and Homecoming King.
The GCHS band along with special community guests will welcome the court onto the field with a rendition of Elton John's "Can You Feel the Love Tonight", so it will certainly be an evening you won't want to miss.

Think you can catch a t-shirt at tonight's homecoming football game? Mr. Hill's Physics class in partnership with the GCHS Cheerleaders will be using a student-built and tested trebuchet to launch t-shirts into the stands!
The Gilmer Grab-n-Go will be visiting families on Saturday, September 23rd. Please come and join us for some fun with the Gilmer County Girl Scouts. We will be giving Snack Packs from the Gilmer FRN also. See ya in your neighborhood.
If you are a grandparent raising your grandchildrren in Gilmer County, we have a group for you to join! Each month at the Gilmer County Board of Education, our Healthy Grandfamilies meet to discuss topics relevant to raising your grandchildren. Resources are also provided to meet grandfamily needs.
