GCHS recognizes school attendance as a fundamental aspect of education that significantly impacts a student’s academic success and personal development. Encouraging consistent attendance not only benefits individual students but also contributes to a positive school culture.
Today, GCHS Student Council sponsored 7 drawings for Titan Spirit Packs as an attendance reward just for being present at school! The winners are: Mia Butcher (6th grade), Cheryl Craig (7th grade), Mallaky Frame (8th grade), Shawn Hull (9th grade), Dakota Smith (10th grade), Rebekah Spears (11th grade), and Hannah Stump (12th grade).

🎉🌟 Celebrating Our Perfect Attendance Wildcats! 🌟🎉
We are incredibly proud to recognize 68 students at Gilmer County Elementary who achieved perfect attendance for the first 9 weeks of school! Not missing a single day in that time is truly an impressive accomplishment.
Regular attendance is one of the most important factors in a student’s success. Each school day builds on the last, and being here every day helps students keep up with lessons, stay engaged with their classmates, and feel confident in their learning. When students attend consistently, they’re less likely to fall behind and can tackle new skills with confidence!
Congratulations to our Wildcats with perfect attendance, and thank you to all the families who support them. Let’s keep aiming for excellent attendance every day, GCES! 🐾💪

🌍 Geographical adventures in the Potomac Highlands. 🏞️
Mr. Yocum and Mrs. Lora Chapman took Mr. Yocum's Geography Class on an adventure to the beautiful mountains of Tucker, Randolph, and Pendleton Counties this Friday, October 18, 2024.
Students experienced the majestic scenes of Black Waterfalls, Spruce Knob, and the dramatic grandeur of Seneca Rocks. Our young scholars were also able to observe the beautiful colors of the Autumn leaves that our great state of West Virginia has to offer while immersing themselves in a real-world study of Geography.
After a long day of hiking and exploring, the group stopped for a sweet treat at The Donut Spot.

Due to lack of substitute bus drivers we are doubling up bus 76 and 72 for both the morning and afternoon runs for tomorrow Friday, September 27. Pick up and drop off times will be different for students for the morning and afternoon runs.

On September 18, 2024, Mrs. Shiflet's third-grade writing classes had a special virtual visit from some amazing guests! 🎉 Lisa Collum, CEO and Author of Top Score Writing, and Katie Jackson-Szabo, Curriculum Director of Top Score Writing, joined each class via Zoom. These two inspiring educators are featured in the instructional videos our students watch daily as part of their Top Score lessons. ✏️
This incredible opportunity came about because Mrs. Shiflet reached out to Mrs. Collum to share how much she loves the Top Score program and how engaged the students are with the videos. Mrs. Collum didn’t just reply—she suggested a Zoom call to chat with the students! They discussed the curriculum and even took time to answer questions.
A huge thank you to Mrs. Shiflet for making this unforgettable learning experience possible for her third graders! 🌟👏 #GoGilmer

📘 Attention GCES Families! Please remember to check your child's blue data folder that was sent home last Thursday. Take a moment to review and discuss the important information inside with your student, then sign the folder and return it to school. Your involvement is key to their success! Thank you for your support #GoGilmer
