The $100 deposit for the 8th grade trip to DC is due this Friday, November 3rd. Students who have been selling McDonalds cards for their deposit need to return their money to Mrs. Barr this week. Also, do not forget to create your Group Connect account for yourself and your student if you plan on chaperoning. We will be updating your student's balance through the Group Connect site as we fundraise.

Attention Parents and Students:
Since tomorrow is Halloween, students will be allowed to wear costumes during the school day. In order to ensure that this event is fun yet does not interrupt instruction, we have established a few guidelines:
• Please dress up at home. We cannot accommodate all the people who would like to change in our bathrooms. Hair coloring, make-up, gel, etc. should be applied at home prior to arriving to school as well. Do not bring spray, gel, make-up, paint, glitter, etc.to school to be applied. It will be confiscated by a staff member. Classes will take place as normal, and you won't have time.
• The school dress code still applies. Hats may be worn only as part of an identifiable costume. Costumes that are inappropriate will not be allowed. The following is NOT allowed under any circumstances:
o Clothing with distasteful, bloody, or mutilation themes
o Clothing with vulgarity or inappropriate language
o Two-person costumes
o Masks and full-face paint
o Pogo sticks, skateboards, roller blades, stilts
o Live animals
o Costumes that contain any sort of weapon (guns, knives, scythes)
Let's have a happy Halloween!

GSU Student Inspires Future Space Innovators in NASA Payload Challenge 🚀🌟
Ms. Natalie Fout, student at GSU, came to Mrs. Barker's engineering and flight and space classes Friday to teach about her work with NASA and get students involved in a NASA competition to build a payload.
This payload design is centered around NASAs work with stratospheric balloons and getting information about eclipses. We thank our partner in education Glenville State University and Ms. Fout.

Mrs. Barr's 7th-grade math students undertook an exciting escape room challenge to review proportional relationships. They worked together to solve a series of problems and puzzles with the goal of escaping from a cruise ship. Here are some of our escapees! #gomath #gogilmer

🔬 Science meets art! 📸
Mr. Hill's chemistry students recently used their skills and knowledge of chemistry to produce pictures using a historical photographic printing technique known as Silver Salt Printing.
Solutions of sodium chloride and silver nitrate were painted onto a card which produced silver chloride, a photosensitive compound. Students also used photo editing software to produce a negative image and printed them onto plastic film. When the photosensitive paper is exposed to light through the negative, a positive image is printed onto the paper due to the decomposition of the silver chloride in the transparent areas of the negative. Students then used sodium thiosulfate to "fix" the image and make it permanent.
👏👩🔬👨🔬 A brilliant blend of science and artistry in the hands of our young chemists! #gogilmer #science

Are you a student who is interested in a job in healthcare? Do you wonder what types of jobs might be available in the health care field? If so, Juniors and Seniors who are interested in learning more about possible jobs in health care are invited to attend a Health Occupations Expo on Thursday, November 9th in Roanoke, WV.
If you want to attend, you must have an endorsement by a teacher who can attest to your interest for working in a health care field, and you must be passing and caught up in all your classes.
Sign up/permission slips are available in the office. Permission forms must be returned to Mr. Reed by no later than November 1st, 2023. Because we must have an accurate count of the number of students who will be attending the Expo for the organizers of the event, no permission forms will be accepted after November 1st.
We will be stopping at a fast-food restaurant following the Expo for lunch. Please be sure to bring enough money for your lunch and any snacks that you might purchase.
More details about the trip will be available as we get closer to the date.
