Gilmer County Elementary School (GCES) hosted the annual LSIC (Local School Improvement Council) Linkage Meeting on Monday, February 24, 2025, welcoming the Gilmer County Board of Education for an evening filled with student achievements, school highlights, and community support.
The event kicked off with a fantastic performance by the GCES Intermediate Band, directed by Mrs. Judith Leggett. They played the Star-Spangled Banner to set the tone and wrapped up with a fun pep tune that got everyone in great spirits.
A special moment of recognition was given to Enslee Smith and Holly Moyers for their dedication and achievement in science. Both students were honored for their hard work and success in reaching the Regional Science Fair, a testament to their commitment to academic excellence.
Mrs. Julie Busby, the dedicated and compassionate site coordinator for Communities in Schools, discussed the vital role the program plays in supporting students by addressing their needs, fostering strong attendance, and providing essential resources to help them succeed.
Mrs. Amber Frashure, a valued member of the GCES Leadership Team and an expert 5th-grade math teacher, shared how she brings Building Thinking Classrooms into her lessons every day. Her approach keeps students engaged, thinking critically, and actively involved in their learning.
Another highlight of the night was a video presented by Assistant Principal, Mrs. Sonja Hartshorn and school counselor, Mrs. Teresa Goodnight, showcasing the incredible impact of Boaz, the school’s therapy dog. The video captured just how much Boaz means to students and staff, bringing comfort, motivation, and positive energy to GCES every day.
Wrapping up the night, Principal Tyson Price shared some great news—attendance is up this year, thanks to strong community and family support! He also touched on the school’s academic progress, noting that math and reading scores on the General Summative Assessment are on the rise, showing steady improvement.
The LSIC Linkage Meeting was a great opportunity to celebrate the hard work of students, teachers, and the entire GCES community. With continued dedication and teamwork, the school is on an exciting path forward!
