Parents and guardians this is a message from Gilmer County Schools regarding threats being shared on social media nationwide ahead of Friday, September 13th, 2024. While Gilmer County Schools have not been directly affected by these threats, we could be and plan to take each one seriously. We are working closely with the Local Sheriff’s department, the West Virginia State Police, the Department of Homeland Security, and the West Virginia Department of Education to monitor threat activity and provide updates to our community.
If you or your child receives any threat, we strongly urge you not to share it on social media. Instead, please visit https://tinyurl.com/3wzkwcb8 , download the SeeSend app, or utilize your students device which already has the See Send app installed to report potential threats. You should also contact law enforcement directly.
Please remember that making false threats against a school is a felony offense, and those responsible can face prosecution. We want to make sure students are safe, and posting on social media is not the proper place to report potential threats.
Our priority is student safety, and we plan to have school in session on Friday with law enforcement present. Thank you for your attention and cooperation in keeping our schools safe.
